Permission application fees

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority collects a fee to cover the cost of the time spent administering and assessing the request for Marine Park permission.

Fees vary according to the complexity of the application and are usually paid before the application assessment starts.

Please note: The Authority acknowledges that travel bans and work restrictions associated with the outbreak of COVID-19 have placed severe financial hardship on businesses who use and access the Great Barrier Reef.

On 19 June 2020 the Office of Parliamentary Counsel gave Royal Assent to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Amendment (Coronavirus Economic Response Package) Act 2020 (Act No. 63 of 2020). The Act legislates the temporary waiving of Permit Application Assessment Fees (PAAF) as well as other application and request fees from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021.

In recognition of limited Permit Holder staff capacity and contractor availability, any valid applications will be assessed based on available information, further information requests will be limited where possible.

The Application Guidelines provide full details, and a list of fees for the current calendar year is also available.
