As the lead management agency for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, we have a critical role in providing expert technical and policy advice to relevant organisations to help them take action to avoid, mitigate, and manage threats to the Reef.
We target engagement with key stakeholders responsible for critical response plans, frameworks, and actions to focus involvement where it can have the greatest impact, taking into account the increasing number of government and non-government organisations that are now involved in Reef protection.
Focus for 2020-21
Our Corporate Plan 2020-21 sets our strategic direction for the agency for the next four years. Together with the Portfolio Budget Statement and Annual Report it forms the planning and performance framework for the Authority. We also produce a Corporate Plan 2020-2021: at a glance.
Our Corporate Plan provides detailed information on the delivery strategies, performance criteria, and targets around how we enhance Reef resilience by providing expert knowledge to advise key decision makers on managing, reducing, or avoiding significant threats to the Reef.
Our focus in 2020-21 is to strategically advise on the policy and governance of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area by working collaboratively with a range of sectors to implement the Australian and Queensland governments’ Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan.
This includes implementing the Reef Integrated Monitoring and Reporting Program, which will inform decision-making and enable adaptive management of the Marine Park.
