Superyacht anchorages in the Whitsundays

Twenty-one superyacht anchorages were introduced into the Whitsunday Planning Area on 2 August 2017. These anchorages are available for superyachts less than 70 metres and carrying no more than 12 people other than master and crew. They are provided to offer recreational users and commercial operators a range of opportunities in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

The number of superyachts able to anchor at a superyacht anchorage at any one point in time is generally one superyacht, except at the Stonehaven anchorage, Hook Island superyacht anchorage, and the Whitehaven Beach South (Whitsunday Island) superyacht anchorage; where the capacity is two superyachts.

Please note: When using a superyacht anchorage the anchor equipment (anchor and chain) is to remain inside the specified anchorage area at all times.

Making a booking

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority operates an online booking system for these anchorages.

Allocation of anchorages

Anchorages will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Entering Australia

Superyachts that enter Australia from overseas must arrive at a port of entry for international superyachts, unless permission is granted to arrive at another port in Australia. Further information is available from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
