Reef Beat 2012 - The Inshore Great Barrier Reef - Bursting with Biodiversity

The theme of the 2012 Reef Beat education series is The Inshore Great Barrier Reef - Bursting with Biodiversity. It explores how the inshore marine, coastal and Great Barrier Reef catchment ecosystems are interconnected and reliant on one another to function.

The series identifies and outlines the biodiversity of the marine and coastal ecosystems and Great Barrier Reef catchment and the key threats to biodiversity using best available science at the time of production.

The 2012 Reef Beat includes ten A3 posters and an activity book. Nine of the ten posters make a picture of the inshore Great Barrier Reef and the adjacent catchment areas when displayed together.

This resource is a classroom teaching tool with activities designed for multiple year levels from Early Years to Year 12. The activities are linked to the Australian Curriculum. The cross-curriculum priorities Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and sustainability feature in the posters and activity book, as does the building of students' investigation skills.

If you would like to provide feedback on the 2012 Reef Beat series or to find out more about the Reef Guardians program and what actions you can take to protect the Reef, please contact the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
