State Party Report
On 1 February 2013 Australia submitted its State Party Report on the state of conservation of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area to the World Heritage Committee.
In announcing the release of the report, the Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke said that the management and protection of the reef is a top priority and Australia is committed to adapting and improving management to meet future challenges.
The State Party Report addresses the Committee’s 2012 decision and the recommendations of the 2012 joint World Heritage Centre/International Union for the Conservation of Nature monitoring mission which included the Australian Government undertaking a range of measures to protect the outstanding universal value of the reef.
The report highlights the government's actions so far to protect the Great Barrier Reef and to ensure it retains the values for which it received its world heritage listing.
