What are Sea Country Partnerships Grants?
The Sea Country Partnerships Grants Program is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's implementation of the Caring for our Country Reef Rescue Indigenous Land and Sea Country Partnerships Program funded by the Australian Government.
During 2010-2011, a initial total of $300,000 was made available under the Sea Country Partnerships Grants Program to fund projects between $5,000 and $50,000 to Indigenous groups and organisations representing Traditional Owners in the Great Barrier Reef catchment area. Given the overwhelming response received, the allocated funding was increased to $500,000.
Proposed projects need to be aligned with one or more of the Reef Rescue Indigenous Land and Sea Country Partnerships Program priority areas of:
- Traditional Use of Marine Resource Agreements (TUMRAs)
- Strengthening of communications and knowledge sharing
- Enhancing compliance
- Engaging with communities.
