Tourists enjoy the beauty of beaches in the Great Barrier Reef Marine ParkApproximately 840 tourism operators and 1700 tourism vessels are permitted to operate in the Marine Park. 

Tourism experiences in the Marine Park range from small sailing yachts cruising around the islands and wave piercing catamarans operating to reef-based pontoons to cruise ships carrying hundreds of people on international itineraries.

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority has a team dedicated to ensuring sustainable tourism and recreation within the Marine Park. The work of the team ranges from advice on management arrangements and best practice to raising industry standards and working with the tourism industry to achieve positive environmental outcomes.

We are committed to working in partnership with the tourism industry to ensure a healthy, well protected Reef.
