The incidence and severity of mass coral bleaching events have increased over the last two decades, prompting leading coral reef researchers and managers to declare that coral reefs are in 'crisis'. In response, over 50 experts in coral bleaching and coral reef management have collaborated to produce A Reef Manager’s Guide to Coral Bleaching.

This guide provides a clear and accessible synthesis of current and emerging knowledge on coral bleaching. Underpinned by this knowledge, the guide identifies actions reef managers can take during a mass-bleaching event. This book also provides science-based guidance on ways reef managers can support the ability of coral reefs to survive and recover from bleaching events by restoring and maintaining coral reef resilience.

This guide is a must-read for coral reef managers, conservation practitioners and others wanting to understand the impacts and management options for coral reefs in a changing climate.

A Reef Manager's Guide to Coral Bleaching was officially launched by Senator the Hon. Ian Campbell, Minister for the Environment and Heritage in Canberra on November 30, 2006. View a copy of the Minister's news release.
