Photography, filming and recording in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
Under the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Zoning Plan 2003, photography, filming and/or sound recording on or under the water in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park does not require a permit from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
However, these activities must not include placing any structures (tripods, props or other devices) in the Marine Park. In addition, there must not be any manipulation of the environment (such as moving coral or handling marine life).
If your activities fall outside these requirements please download a Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority permit application form.
We also recommend you consult the Queensland Parks and Wildlife filming guidelines prior to undertaking any activities. These guidelines are available from the Environmental Protection Agency website.
When out on the water, help look after the unique plants and animals by following some simple best environmental practices.
Should you have any queries, contact the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Communication Unit on (07) 4750 0846 or email media@gbrmpa.gov.au.
