Reef Guardians Bargara State School given helping hand

25 March 2010

Bargara State School will be rewarded today (Thursday 25 March) for their environmental initiative and hard work towards protecting the Great Barrier Reef.

The Reef Guardian School will be presented with $500 as part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's (GBRMPA) Ripples of Change seed funding grants.

Bargara State School will use the grant to buy gardening equipment so students can help keep the school's vegetable garden thriving and in doing so focus on activities to help keep the Great Barrier Reef healthy.

With the Reef at a crossroads it has never been more important to encourage and adopt activities that keep the Reef strong.

Reef Guardian Schools is an environmental education program delivered by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Entering its eighth year, this education program sees more than 60 000 students in around 194 schools committed to the protection and conservation of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.
