Decide to become Reef Guardian Council

Send a Motion to Council to request to be a Reef Guardian Council.

GBRMPA staff   deliver a workshop to council staff about the Reef Guardian Council Program

Notify GBRMPA

Letter of request is sent from the Council CEO to GBRMPA.

Develop a Reef Guardian Working Group

Use an existing working group or set up a new working group of key people committed to environmental stewardship within your council.

Council begins to summarise their actions in line with the Reef Guardian Action Checklist

Draft Action Plan

Using a checklist, complete a draft action plan.

Review

Send to GBRMPA for input, comment and assessment.

Council working group develops action plan with GBRMPA (on request)

Final Action Plan

Council and GBRMPA agree that all applicable actions have been included and the action plan is ready for sign off.

GBRMPA staff meet with council staff, and follow up with a presentation with Council to answer questions

Sign off

Motion goes to council to accept action plan. Alternatively the CEO may sign off on the completed action plan.

Memorandum of Understanding

Letter and formal agreement sent to the GBRMPA.
