Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority :: Regulation Amendments

Regulation Amendments

On 12 July 2005, a number of amendments to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 1983 came into effect. These changes do NOT affect the boundaries of any zones within the Marine Park.

One of these amendments revoked part of the Cape Upstart Public Appreciation Special management Area. The boundary description for the amended Special Management Area can be found in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 1983.

In addition, these regulations also made minor amendments to further clarify the intent of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Zoning Plan 2003 relating to:

  • The accreditation of educational and research institutions;
  • The taking of protected species;
  • The taxonomic classification of corals;
  • The definition of a ‘ganged hook set’;
  • The research aids that can be used for limited impact research (extractive) and limited impact research (non-extractive);
  • Limited collecting; and
  • Trolling.

These amendments can also be found in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 1983.
