Clump Point Site Management Arrangements
The waters of Boat Bay are adjacent to the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and contain seagrass beds and mangrove forests. The area is considered to be a cultural landscape by the local Dijiru Traditional Owners and contains a number of important cultural sites.
Several applications have been received for the installation of moorings within Boat Bay and the immediate vicinity. Boat Bay is a very small location and unless carefully managed, the installation of moorings at this site has the potential to restrict public use, create conflict between users and impinge on the natural and cultural values of the area.
The GBRMPA, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Maritime Safety Queensland have developed site management arrangements for the Clump Point area in conjunction with the Mission Beach Local Marine Advisory Committee to ensure that any moorings installed do not conflict with the area’s values and uses. The site management arrangements include a designated mooring site and areas that will remain free of moorings for anchoring and vessel transit.
For further information or to provide comments on the arrangements, please either call the GBRMPA on 4750 0700 or email info@gbrmpa.gov.au, marked to the attention of the Senior Planner.
Please note that the application for moorings within the Marine Park are subject to detailed assessment and are a separate, but closely related process from the development of site management arrangements. For more information, see the Environmental Impact Assessment web page.
