Outlook Online 2009
Reporting Incidents and Offences in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
You can help to protect the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park by reporting incidents and suspected offences you have witnessed.
Offences against the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park legislation include:
- Fishing or collecting in a Green Zone
- Fishing with more than one line per person in a Yellow Zone
- Approaching too close to a whale
- Breaches of Marine Park Permits
- Littering and other discharges of pollution
Please refer to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Zoning Plan 2003 or to the Activities Guide on Marine Park zoning maps to identify which activities are allowed in each zone type.
If you witness a suspected breach of the law you are advised not to approach any suspected persons or request information from them.
To assist the reporting of suspected offences, the Field Management Compliance Coordination Unit (FMCCU) has developed an On-line Incident Reporting Form which allows you to record the details of a suspected offence and submit them to the FMCCU.
The On-line Incident Reporting Form will guide you through what type of information is required by the FMCCU to assess and investigate a suspected offence.
Alternatively, you can download the incident report form and forward the completed form along with any photographs to the FMCCU or nearest Queensland Parks and Wildlife office (address and numbers listed on the form).
To report issues requiring an urgent response, please telephone the Field Management Incident Reporting Hotline Number. The operator that you speak to will take your details and a compliance officer will call you back
