Commercial Filming
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) has dealt with a number of commercial filming projects ranging from short documentaries to big budget films (A$120M) such as the Warner Bros film Fool’s Gold and the TV series Sea Patrol.
Filming, photography and sound recording in the Marine Park requires a permit unless the recording of images or sounds is likely to have a negligible impact on the Marine Park and is categorised as of right (i.e. no permit required).
This is the case when:
- No equipment is placed on the sea floor/beach (for example tripods, booms, tracks)
- The environment is not modified
- Animals are not handled
- Transport is provided by operators who hold a current permit for the proposed activity and location.
For further information read the Commercial Filming Guidelines.
