Gladstone Port 50 year strategic plan
Gladstone Ports Corporation, 2008:
"The Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is looking towards a dynamic future of growth well into the 21st Century based on details released recently in its 2008 update of the 50-year Strategic Plan.
The update identifies the potential for the future development of port centres and is a vital tool that ensures the port’s readiness to accommodate the continuing growth of Gladstone’s industry in a sustainable manner, building security for the Gladstone community and Central Queensland economy.
Vision and action are at the core of the plan, which will see the Port of Gladstone’s existing wharf centres reorganised, new berths constructed and a duplicate shipping channel created.
The 50-year Strategic Plan first appeared in 1992 after extensive public consultations and is updated regularly to inform stakeholders and the wider community about future capacity and infrastructure growth within the Port of Gladstone and Port Alma.
Future development at both locations will reflect industry demands through the ability to handle diversification of trade and the location and suitability of port facilities to meet industry
requirements.
It will also ensure ship safety and minimise arrival and departure delays.
The 2008 update indicates that the Port of Gladstone harbour will be able to accommodate up to 300 million tonnes (Mt) of export product within the next 50 years."
