International recognition of tourism management achievements
The GBRMPA's achievements in the management of the Great Barrier Reef have received international recognition through the receipt of a number of case studies and awards, including:

- Minister's Achievement Award for Fostering Partnerships with the Tourism Industry to Deliver Environmental Outcomes Australian Government Minister for the Environment and Heritage 2006
Case Studies
- July 2006 - GBRMPA high standard tourist program featured in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s publication, Best Practices in Sustainable Tourism Management Initiatives for APEC Economics
- March 2006 - Australian Government’s Revised Action Plan for the Development of the Australia Pacific Cruise Industry featured GBRMPA case study: Shipping Development in the Great Barrier Reef: Engaging stakeholders to foster sustainable cruise shipping growth in a World Heritage Area
- 2006 - Conservation International featured the GBRMPA’s approach to managing cruise shipping in their publication From Ship to Shore: Sustainable Stewardship in Cruise Destinations
