Site Management Arrangements
In some circumstances, issues can arise at specific sites in the Marine Park that require further management direction or explanation beyond that provided in the Zoning Plans or the Plans of Management. Examples of issues can include multiple permit applications for moorings, amenity pressures caused by different user groups, species and/or habitat conservation, changes in use patterns, environmental impacts caused by use or access, or a need to simply document what activities can occur at a site.
Site management arrangements are subsequently prepared in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the tourism industry, local communities, Traditional Owners, GBRMPA staff, Queensland Parks and Wildlife, Maritime Safety Queensland, Local Marine Advisory Committees, and commercial and recreational fishers.
Site management arrangements identify values, use, structures and specific management issues at the site. Depending on the issue, management arrangements may include identifying anchoring and mooring areas, location of reef protection markers and snorkelling areas or designating specific areas for different user groups.
Current site management arrangements cover a range of sites across the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
