Outlook Online 2009

Conflicts of use and overcrowding

Over the past five years, there has been no appreciable change in the perceived crowding of the GBR when on a recreational trip. The majority of people would recommend the destination they most recently visited to other people (92%, down from 97% in 2003). Likewise, 93% of people would return to the same destination in the future.
In general, people viewed the number of wildlife encounters, including fish, sharks, birds, whales and dugongs, as about right - neither too many nor too few. Likewise, the number of other vessels and the number of other people, in the main, were about right or it didn't matter.
