Impact of ghost nets derived from commercial fisheries

Greenland et al., 2002:

"The reporting of turtle mortality in ghost nets along the western Cape York Peninsula coast is known to be very incomplete. Extrapolation from counts from recently beachwashed ghost-nets and their entrapped turtles on the beaches of north-western Cape York Peninsula in early 2001 and 2002 suggest that several hundred marine turtles of at least four species are killed annually in ghost nets along the Queensland Gulf of Carpentaria coast (Limpus and Miller 2002). "
