Commercial crab fishing: spatial distribution of 2007 catch (grids)

Map shows spatial distribution of retained catch in the East Coast mud, blue and spanner crab fisheries in 2007 in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park World Heritage Area. Catch is recorded as tonnes per 30 minute grid (30 x 30 nautical miles). The majority of spanner crab catch is caught in midshelf waters, south of Rockhampton. Mud and blue swimmer crab are primarily associated with embankments, river mouths and internal waterways. It should be noted that the magnitude of the recreational catch of mud crabs in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park World Heritage Area is likely to be similar to that taken by commercial fishers.

**A few grids contained less than five boats operating in a year, however tonnage was insignificant so data was aggregated into the catch category 0.01-10t.
