Commercial net fishing: spatial distribution of 2007 catch (grids)
Map shows spatial distribution of retained catch in the East Coast net fishery in 2007 in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park World Heritage Area. Catch is recorded as tonnes per 30 minute grid (30 x 30 nautical miles). This fishing includes both an inshore and an offshore component. The inshore component targets primarily barramundi and is closely associated with embankments, estuaries and river mouths. The offshore component uses different fishing gear and primarily targets mackerels and sharks. Grids with less than five boats operating in a year have been identified but no catch information given.
