Commercial line fishing: spatial distribution of 2007 catch (grids)
Map shows spatial distribution of retained catch in the east coast line (reef fish and some inshore finfish) fisheries in 2007 in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park World Heritage Area. Catch is recorded as tonnes per 30 minute grid (30 x 30 nautical miles). The majority of the catch comes from the reef line sector who target coral trout for the live fish trade. Most fishing effort occurs on the midshelf reefs from Innisfail to the Southern Swains reefs. Grids with less than five boat operations in a year have been identified but no catch information given.
