Commercial fishing: crab (pot) catch trends

Annual commercial pot (mud and blue swimmer crab) catch (in tonnes) in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park World Heritage Area from 2004 - 2007. The number of active boats per year is shown above each bar. Some of the catch and effort pattern is likely to reflect industry adjustment (including licence buyouts, business restructuring and changing fishing locations) following the introduction of the new Zoning Plan in July 2004.
