Annual commercial net catch (in tonnes) in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park World Heritage Area from 2004 - 2007. Data are for all east coast net types (except bait nets) and all retained species. The number of active boats per year is shown above each bar. Some of the catch and effort pattern is likely to reflect  the inherent seasonality of the net fishery and some is likely to be the result of industry adjustment (including license buyouts, business restructuring and changing fishing locations) following the introduction of the new Zoning Plan in July 2004.
