Outlook Online 2009
Fisheries: catch information
The information in this table provides a summary of the catch from each fishery or sector operating in the GBRMP. Commercial catch in the GBRMP from 2007 is compared with the annual quota (when quota based), and for recreational catch, estimates are provided based on the 2005 DPI&F recreational fishing diary program. Information is provided on key target species across each sector, as is commentary on catch and catch per unit effort (CPUE) trends for most fisheries for the last three years in Queensland. This information provides context to the GBRMP specific trends provided elsewhere in these pages.
Note, no trend information is provided for coral catch or CPUE because new management arrangements were introduced in 2006 for this fishery so there is insufficient data at the time of writing.
An estimate of Gross Value of Product (GVP) is provided for each fishery for the whole of Queensland. Much of this information has come from the 2007 Annual Status Reports. A formal assessment of GVP has not yet been done for most of the dive-based harvest fisheries. Consequently, information supplied by fishers was used to provide an indicative estimate - this is an area that needs further work before the next Outlook Report.
Other areas for which there is very little economic information are the non-commercial fishing sectors (recreational, charter and indigenous).
