Land and Sea Country Indigenous Partnerships Program

The Land and Sea Country Indigenous Partnerships Program began in 2008.

In 2013, the Australian Government committed a further $10 million over five years towards the program.

The program actively engages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in managing and protecting the Reef's marine resources and cultural diversity by:

  • developing and implementing Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreements (TUMRAs)
  • supporting the Indigenous Community Compliance Program
  • engaging Traditional Owners to share and increase their knowledge base in sea country management, including through the sponsorship program and execution of the Sense Activity Program.

The Land and Sea Country Indigenous Partnerships Program is a component of the Australian Government's Reef Programme.
