Onboard - Tourism Operator's Handbook for the Great Barrier Reef

Tourism and Recreation Reef Advisory Committee

One of the key ways the tourism industry provides advice to the Authority is through the Tourism and Recreation Reef Advisory Committee (TRRAC). The Committee also provides a valuable face-to-face link between the GBRMPA's Tourism and Recreation Group and the tourism industry.

How often does TRRAC meet?

The TRRAC usually meets four times each year, with meetings generally held in March, June, September and December. Meetings are held in various regional centres along the Great Barrier Reef coast.

Who's on the TRRAC?

The TRRAC brings together a cross-section of representatives with interests and expertise in areas relevant to tourism and recreation use of the Great Barrier Reef. It has 20 members who are appointed for a period of 3 years, including an independent Chair. The Director of the GBRMPA's Tourism and Recreation Group is a member of the Committee.

The Executive Director of the Association of Marine Park Tourism Operators (AMPTO) usually attends the meetings as an advisor.

How was the Committee chosen?

The Committee members were chosen by the GBRMPA because of their expertise in fields relevant to tourism and recreation in the Great Barrier Reef. Initially, potential members were identified through expressions of interest.

How can I become involved?

If you have any ideas or concerns that you would like the TRRAC to consider, please contact any of the Committee members or the GBRMPA.
