The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Townsville head office is set to move to a new location in the Townsville central business district.
From mid-July 2018, the Marine Park Authority will start moving its office from its current location at 2-68 Flinders Street to the Northtown complex in Flinders Street.
“We’ve now negotiated a lease for a new location, which will allow for development of our existing site,” Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority General Manager Bruce Elliot said.
“In the longer term, we look forward to returning to new accommodation close to our national education centre Reef HQ Aquarium.
“Reef HQ Aquarium will continue to trade in its current location in Flinders Street.
“When site development starts around Reef HQ, some modifications will be made to the area around Reef HQ’s entrance. We’ll seek to ensure there’s minimal impact on operations and visitors.”
The Marine Park Authority’s Townsville head office employees about 200 people. They will occupy areas across five floors in the Northtown complex.
Colliers International assisted with the lease negotiations, with the current lease for a three-year period.
The Marine Park Authority also has smaller offices in Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, Brisbane and Canberra.
