Bowen Reef Guardians network for the environment

Published: 20/07/2011

Bowen Reef Guardian teachers will tomorrow evening connect with Local Government representatives, environmental organisations, industry and government tomorrow evening to discuss how they can join forces to help protect the environment and the Great Barrier Reef.

Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Reef Guardian Schools Education Officer Carolyn Luder said the Reef Guardian Networking Meeting would give teachers and partners the chance to gain access to resources, people power and information.

"The event will provide one-on-one networking opportunities to share resources, knowledge and environmental opportunities in 2011.

Ms Luder said participants will be able to problem solve some issues relating to current environmental school projects, such as revegetating after the recent cyclones," Ms Luder said.

"The Bowen event was highly successful last year and this year has been extended to include more community and industry representatives.

"Reef Guardian Networking Meetings are held annually throughout the Great Barrier Reef catchment and have proven to be highly successful in establishing lasting community partnerships."

Reef Guardian Schools is an environmental education program run by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.
