Cyclone Ita weakens

Published: 12/04/2014

Cyclone Ita is weakening after making landfall on Friday night as a category 4 storm at Cape Flattery.

While the localised damage to the Reef is yet to be surveyed, the impact of the cyclone has been restricted to a comparatively small area of the 350,000 square kilometre Reef system.

The storm is expected to travel down the coast towards Innisfail as a tropical low bringing with it heavy rains.

The Marine Park Authority will assess the damage to the Reef and work with communities and the tourism industry to assist in recovery efforts.
