Seeking community comment on two snorkel trails proposed for Magnetic Island
Published: 10/10/2011
Tourism Operators and Businesses Magnetic Island Incorporated are seeking a permit for the trails at Geoffrey Bay and Arthur Bay.
Under the permit process, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management provide an opportunity for public comment.
The trails will involve installing sub-surface and surface floats to mark the path of the trails. The proposal will not affect the public's current rights to access and use these areas.
Targeted consultation with known stakeholders is taking place to ascertain whether their reasonable use of this part of the Marine Park will be affected by the proposal.
You are invited to lodge written comments by 9 November 2011 if you believe it may restrict the reasonable use of a part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and/or Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park.
Further on the proposal is available from Jacqueline Dupavillon at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority by either email Jacqueline.Dupavillon@gbrmpa.gov.au or by phoning (07) 4750 0758.
