This year we are collaborating with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef to collect as many sightings of coral spawning as possible through our Eye on the Reef Sightings Network.
During 2016–17 the Authority increased its focus on building the Reef’s resilience through management interventions. Pressures from weather events, coral bleaching and disease, and crown-of-thorns starfish highlighted the need for action to ensure the long-term health of the Reef.
Our strategies for the protection of coastal ecosystems can be found in the Authority’s position statement for coastal ecosystems, which is open for public consultation until 5pm on 24 November 2017.
A new online application portal has been launched to allow applicants to submit Marine Parks permit applications and to manage their existing permits and contact details.
Information on the Great Barrier Reef Summit — Managing for Resilience — which took place on 24 and 25 May 2017 and involved over 70 regional, national and international delegates.
We recently provided input to the Australian Department of Environment and Energy on the climate change policies and review discussion paper.
