Where can you collect shells?
The Zoning Plan details where you where you can collect shells in the Marine Park.
Limited shell collecting is allowed in the light and dark blue zones and also in the brown zone.
What you need to know
- Shell collecting whether for dead or alive shells can occur all year round in the Marine Park.
- You must abide by limits for collecting shells. Generally, five shells of any one species in a 28-day period is allowed.
- Collecting greater numbers of shells requires a specific Marine Parks permit.
- A number of shells (e.g. giant triton) are totally protected under legislation and may not be collected.

How you can help
- Ensure you use the best environmental practices for shell collecting in the Marine Park.
- Report marine animal strandings and deaths (whales, dugongs, dolphins) to QPWS on 1300 130 372 .
