Overview
The Marine Park Authority Board (MPA) convened on Monday 26th November and received comprehensive briefings on current issues, including: an update on the development of the GBR Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and a Position Statement on Shipping in the GBR World Heritage Area; progress on the Strategic Assessment; and efforts to control the Crown of Thorns Starfish.
Strategic Planning for 2013-14
The MPA considered the approach taken to develop the draft GBRMPA Strategic Plan 2013-17 and was particularly interested to engage more closely with strategic planning.
Decision MPA 2012-224-9 (26 November 2012): The Authority reviewed and endorsed the approach taken with the draft GBRMPA Strategic Plan 2013-17, noting that the completed Strategic Plan for 2013-17 will be further developed by the Board early in 2013 when the draft strategic assessment report is available.
Term of Reef Advisory Committees extended to 30 June 2013
The MPA discussed the term of the four Reef Advisory Committees (RACs):
- Catchment and Coastal RAC
- Ecosystem RAC
- Indigenous RAC and
- Tourism and Recreation RAC
Decision MPA 2012-224-21 (26 November 2012): The Authority agreed to extend the term of the current RACs to 30 June 2013 to enable continued engagement with present RAC members through the strategic assessment process.
