Annual Report 2011-12

The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s 2011–12 annual report details our results as we strive to meet our goal of long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community, through the care and development of the Marine Park.

During the reporting period, we worked towards this outcome by focusing on three key objectives:

  1. Addressing key risks affecting the outlook for the Great Barrier Reef
  2. Ensuring that management delivers ecologically sustainable use of the Great Barrier Reef
  3. Maintaining a high performing, effective and efficient organisation.

The 2011–12 highlights document provides a snapshot of our key achievements in protecting the Reef and supporting its natural resilience.

During the reporting period, we entered into a formal agreement with the Federal Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities to undertake a strategic assessment of the Great Barrier Reef Region.
