Hay Point cyclone moorings
Proposal to install and operate 18 cyclone moorings near Victor Island, Hay Point
McConnell Dowell Constructors (Australia) Pty Ltd and Geosea Australia Pty Ltd proposed the installation and operation of 18 cyclone moorings to the east of Victor Island within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
The operation of the cyclone moorings is associated with works at the Hay Point Coal Terminal Expansion Project (HPX3) and are intended for use during a cyclone event only. It is intended that the cyclone moorings will be removed once the works are completed, which is scheduled for July 2013.
More detailed information on the proposal is available in the information package.
The 30 day public comment period closed 3 October 2011.
No public comments were received on this proposal.
The proposal for 18 cyclone moorings was approved with conditions. This decision is valid for two years.
