Our monitoring and assessment programs
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) is involved in a number of initiatives aimed at educating, monitoring, promoting and protecting the Marine Park.
Information gathered from these programs from members of the public, such as tourism operators, is providing valuable information for scientists and marine managers.
The information is used to develop the best possible management of the Marine Park to cope with ongoing threats from impacts such as climate change.
Marine Monitoring Program
The Reef Rescue Marine Monitoring Program assesses the health of key marine ecosystems - inshore coral reefs and intertidal seagrass - and the condition of water quality in the inshore Great Barrier Reef lagoon.
Eye on the Reef
The GBRMPA has a number of programs under Eye on the Reef that involves collecting valuable information about reef health and protected and iconic species. It is gathered through a range of stakeholders such as tourism operators.
